What I Learned From

Saving Georgia Dogs, Inc.

Working with Saving Georgia Dogs.  Here’s great example of how much I learn when I work with one group that has one goal, and makes a huge impact!

The Dog Liberator

Any time any of us picks up the phone or sends an email  to try to help a homeless dog, we are all Dog Liberators!

Saving Georgia Dogs

In order to design videos for Saving Georgia Dogs, and spread the word about the contest that they had entered, I had a lot of questions!  I got more answers than I bargained for.

I did a lot of research on gassing shelters and the “kill box”.  The article I found about the euthanasia rates of San Antonio in 2004 was very helpful, but I needed more.

After writing to HSUS for details, I was graciously given so much information, it was profound.

Most of this information is located on the previous page, Gassing Shelters.  On this page, however, I want to focus on this wonderful organization, and how much I learned from their relentless efforts.

In working with Saving Georgia Dogs I learned more about Animal Transport Volunteers, OTRA.  I had already published a video for them on youtube, when they transported two beautiful border collies from Georgia to Florida’s Southeast Border Collie Rescue, but OTRA’s history is rich, and loaded with facts that I just never knew.

My opinion:  We can complain about gassing shelters, euthanasia, and other issues until we’re blue in the face.  To solve our problems, we must spray and neuter, we must also insist that private rescues spay and neuter.  We must identify and halt puppy mill operations for the mass production of pets is ludicrous at this point in time, and we must also educate Backyard Breeders, who refuse to call themselves Backyard Breeders.  Instead, they defend themselves and consider themselves typical average families that have the right to breed their beloved Spot and Rover.

Is there a right and wrong way to surrender my pet?  What things can I try to avoid surrendering my pet?   Is there a difference between shelters and pounds?  What states still use carbon monoxide (gassing shelters) in this country?  Why some states have laws preventing them from gassing animals, yet still do?  Why some people are so against rescues?  Why rescues are against irresponsible breeding?  What is a responsible breeder?  What is breed-specific legislation?  Why are animals stolen?  Is it okay to buy a dog from the internet?  What are the different forms of euthanasia?  What cities have reduced euthanasia rates and increased adoption rates?
